Team training in new cargo lashing regulations

27-09-2020
About Us
Some statistics place poor stowage as the cause of up to 45% of road transport accidents.

Until quite recently, there were practically no regulations on how to secure cargo on a truck. The only reference in this regard in our entire legal system was the General Circulation Regulation (RD 1428/2003) Art 14, which indicated the following:
The cargo transported in a vehicle, as well as the accessories used for its conditioning or protection, must be arranged and, if necessary, secured, in such a way that they cannot:

Dragging, falling totally or partially, or moving in a dangerous manner.
Compromising the stability of the vehicle.
Produce noise, dust or other annoyances that can be avoided.
On June 2, 2017, RD 563/2017 was approved. This Royal Decree regulates the technical inspections that will be carried out on commercial vehicles in Spanish territory. In its annex III it determines a series of technical standards, including EN12195-1: 2010, which must be applied when fixing loads on trucks; and therefore, it is a very specific and quantifiable regulation.

Specifically, these are the technical standards:

- EN 12195-1 Calculation of lashing forces.
- EN 12640 Mooring points.
- EN 12642 Strength of the vehicle body structure.
- EN 12195-2 Synthetic fiber lashing straps.
- EN 12195-3 Lashing chains.
- EN 12195-4 Steel mooring cables.
- ISO 1161, ISO 1496 ISO container.
- EN 283 Moving boxes.
- EN 12641 Tarps.
- EUMOS 40511 Post-Stakes.
- EUMOS 40509 Packaged for transport.
